Become a Na Koa Ikaika Maui Host Family
When players decide to continue their baseball career in independent baseball, many travel from across North and South America to play in the Golden Baseball League. This means that they are hours away from friends and family members. For this reason, when they arrive in Maui, they look for a touch of home to make them feel welcome. When you become a host family, you’ll be adding a new member to your family, not just taking on a tenant. Maui players are appreciative of the effort you will be making as a host family and can serve as positive role models for your children.
Host families will also receive season tickets. Families are sure to love the excitement and entertainment of Maui baseball, and the players enjoy seeing their adopted families in the stands. You will also be invited to any host family events the team schedules. But the longest lasting benefit of becoming a host family is the bond that will be forged between your family and a Maui player, the sort of relationship that lasts for years. Players and their host families have been known to keep in contact long after playing careers ended, remaining friends and sharing family milestones.
Becoming a Host Family
To become a host family, the first step is to determine if you are able to fulfill these host family responsibilities. If there are any questions or doubts, please speak to your family about it and feel free to contact the team office to discuss the matter. Prospective host families are asked to complete a questionnaire, which will provide the team with a summary and profile of the family and the living environment. After the questionnaire has been submitted, the team will arrange a meeting to discuss the host family process, gauge if it is a proper fit for the team and your family, and answer any questions.
Host Family Responsibilities:
- Provide room and board for the player(s).
- Be understanding of their schedule. (The team will play 90 games; 45 at home and 45 on the road. The players will arrive in Maui in mid May, and the season will come to an end early to mid September.
Player Responsibilities:
- Adhere to the rules set forth by the Host Family
- Participate as a member of the family, giving the respect/consideration he would give his own family.
- Provide his own transportation to and from the ball park, unless host family offers transportation.
- Wash/dry his own laundry.
- Pay for his own long distance phone calls. (Most players have cell phones.) If you would like more information on serving as a host family, please contact Na Koa Ikaika Maui @ 808- 877-8880 or email to info@nakoaikaikamaui.com
